Our Year Has Started Well
At our meeting Dave Awdas and the brothers of 168 welcomed into our circle two new brothers from St Peter's Church Middleton
The occasion was marked with 32 Brothers in attendance, along with two Past Grand Presidents

Our Provincial Dinner was held at Swinton Park Golf Club
Brothers from across the province gathered to share news and enjoy the company of Brothers from far and wide.
Our thanks go once again to Monsignor Allen for kindly celebrating our Mass for vocations at Our Lady Of Grace Prestwich, and of course Fr Dearman, for their hospitality.
Each Circle arranges a Mass for Vocations, given the number of Circle's across the world, it ensurses a Mass for Vocations is held nearly everyday somewhere.
David Awdas, thanks all brothers, wives and family for attending our first Christmas Meal and the total raised for Cornerstone has exceeded £360 for this one event.

The Northwest round of the Public Speaking Competition was held in Manchester.

Our Clergy Dinner was well attended by 6 Priests. The after dinner speech by Father Peter Conniffe OSB MBE, gave us all something to think about as we face the next 18 months, and the announcment of the number of church closures.

They enjoyed lunch at Thornberries in Alkrington. Its always good to put the world to rights !

With 39 Brothers in attendance we Installed John Kirby as Circle President for this year along with a new Vice President, Secretary, Marshall and Registrar
We all thanked Dave for his year as President and everybody wished John well for the year ahead.
John's first duty was to award the Peter Wright Trophy to our very own Jim Halliwell.

Our June meeting was followed by a talk from Dean Kirby, Johns son.
Its a fascinating story which unlocked a little piece of their past.

We visited The Bridgwater Halls in Manchester No visit is complete with a friendly beer in a German Bar !!!

Following our meeting we had a fantastic talk about a Liverpool school teacher, who with this class has developed and produced Bat or Bird Box, which has been endorsed by Bishop Arnold with the proceeds going to CAFOD.

The December meeting was followed by our Christmas meal. Over 50 attended the meal at Pike Fold, and the raffle raised over £400 for John's charity. A very nice end to 2016 Please click on the left for more pictures.
John, Sue & Lesley presented to the Lalley Centre 85 wrapped Christmas presents and 3 nearly new bikes. It would be good if this could become a National Catenian event. Thanks go to all who contributed for this great cause.
The November meeting was followed by a talk from Sally Hyman who set up a charity helping new born babies and mothers in refugee camps. Over £340 was raised that evening following the talk. Please click on the picture to be taken to their site for more information.
Vice President Stan Nowicks idea came to life when Circle 168 presented to St Monica's Assistant Head a new football kit for the year 11 football team. The school thanks Stan and John Kirby for the kit. On it is The Catenian Logo and it is hoped each year we could repeat the exercise with a different school. HELPING OTHERS UPDATE
President John Kirby and the " Alley Cats "
Raising funds as usual.This time two honourary band members joined in The Mayor of Bury Mike Connolly shaking his Maracas, and his partner Ian Hargreaves.
Our Provincial Mass, was held as usual at Salford Cathedral.
Brothers amd their families come together each year, to attend together and remember our departed brothers and families.
A meal followed at Croma in Prestwich
22 brothers & wives entered the draughts competition that followed our September meeting.
The winner was our very own John Smalley.

Our Presidents Sunday was held in John's Parish of St Peter's Middleton
The mass was followed by Irish coffee, scones toasted tea cakes and tea & coffee.

To celebrate our 750th meeting a meal was enjoyed by all at Pike Fold Golf Club.
